20 minutes after completing a house search, PSNI officers noted that a police belt was missing. The gun and ammunition were found on a child's bed in the house.
Paul Little, who was present when the gun was retrieved, commented: "To be honest, it was a bit surreal -- I don't know whether they were embarrassed or what. But the children could have come into the house and gone straight up the stairs and found it."
A PSNI spokesperson has assured the public that an internal investigation will take place and that the PSNI will treat this loss of equipment very seriously.
