It was announced Monday that Mr Donaldson, a former chief executive of Castlereagh borough council who joined the Northern Ireland Policing Board in 2008, has resigned his post.
Mr Donaldson had been off work for health reasons since
December 2010, and had been subjected to an external review of his performance
as chief executive earlier that year.
The board released a statement saying that interim
arrangements have been made and that they will begin a search for a new chief
executive shortly.
A spokesperson for the board said Mr Donaldson’s
resignation is effective from March 1.
