From The Detail:

"Figures compiled by the PSNI’s Professional Standards Department – which has responsibility for internal discipline relating to police officers – have been released to The Detail under Freedom of Information legislation.

Misconduct investigations involved officers accused of a range of offences including drink driving, theft, assaults, unauthorised disclosure of information, possession of drugs, possession of indecent photographs, sexual offences and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A total of 133 PSNI officers and 15 trainee police officers were suspended for misconduct or alleged misconduct from the start of 2005 to the end of 2010."

This is such a disgrace...these numbers are far too high. Yes, a large majority of officers act properly. But any misconduct is a blight on the whole operation.

when the chief executive resigns because he dosent think the ombudsman is independent it dosent hold much hope or faith in the police misconduct being dealt with properly.I have had a lot of dealings with the PSNI since last september 2010 when my fourteen year old daughter was raped.I cannot begin to explain the amount of incompetance that i have encountered .Their superiors dont want to hear anything bad said about their officers so it is like beating your head of a brick wall.If you are taken to court for something that the police allege that you have done you are almost certainly guilty before you even appear. This is all wrong and must change. As far as i can see the PSNI hasnt changed from it was the RUC.The same things are still happening and they are getting away with it.So i do hope that Sam Pollack blows the whistle on all the guilty parties and them maybe people will be able to gain some faith that the PSNI are made accountable for what misconduct takes place on a regular basis.People in northern ireland give up too easily they dont want to put up a fight against because the long standing opinion is oh nobody wins against the police. This needs to change and i must add i do admire Sam Pollack forresigning and being honest as to how things have been run in the ombudsman s office
